Doris Ray, Board Member
Mrs. Ray was born and raised in Waco, Texas. She earned
a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology from Wiley College in Marshall,
Texas. Mrs. Ray relocated to Michigan to pursue a Masters degree from
The University of Michigan. She later transferred to the College of
Education and earned a Master of Arts degree in early childhood education.
Her post-degree studies continued at the University of Detroit.
Mrs. Ray began working as a teacher at the elementary
and secondary level in the Detroit Public Schools. She was a counselor
and eventually an administrator for over 25 years. She retired as principal
from the MacDowell Elementary School.
Mrs. Ray was married to the late Jesse W. Ray and has
twin sons, Michael and Mark. Mrs. Ray has extensive volunteer activities
that have included:
· Grace Hospital Surgical Lounge
· Detroit Cable Commission member
· Habitat for Humanity Coordinator
· Rotating Shelter Program for the Homeless
· Amistad District Host Committee Co-Chair
· Plymouth United Church of Christ office and church
volunteer
Mrs. Ray also belongs to several organizations:
· Martin Park District Association
· Beta Sigma Phi Fellowship (Wayne State
University)
· Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
· Plymouth United Church of Christ
Mrs. Ray was recognized by the State of Michigan Governor’s
Honor Roll for service to the community. She also received a commendation
from the Michigan State Legislature for her volunteer activities.
Mrs. Ray has served continuously on the Plymouth
Educational Center Board of Directors since 1995.
