Cora Collins, Secretary
Mrs. Collins is a retired educator who served as the
first principal of the Plymouth Day School (as Plymouth Educational
Center was previously known). Mrs. Collins is a graduate of Virginia
State College (B.S.) and The University of Michigan (M.S.). She has
served on the Plymouth Educational Center’s Board of Directors
since 1995.
Prior to becoming principal at Plymouth Day School,
Mrs. Collins taught at the Charles Houston School in Alexandria, Virginia,
and Chaney and Roosevelt Elementary schools in Detroit. Mrs. Collins
was instrumental in the development of the Plymouth Day School, where
she began her tenure as a kindergarten teacher prior to becoming its
first principal.
Mrs. Collins volunteers at Sampson Elementary School
in Detroit as a YES Foundation first grade tutor. She is also a member
of the following organizations: Links, Inc. – Greater Wayne County
Chapter; Auxiliary Detroit Medical Society; Sorosis Literary and Art
Club; and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. – Detroit Alumnae Chapter.
She is also a member of the Plymouth United Church of Christ, where
she served as past president of the Women’s Fellowship and is
currently a member of the Bible Study Class and the Pilot Club.
Mrs. Collins is married to Dr. James W. Collins,
Sr., and has two sons, Dr. James W. Collins, Jr., and Atty. Jeffrey
Collins.
