Roger Simmons, Dean of Students
Roger Simmons began his professional
career with the Detroit Public Schools system, where he had attended
and completed his K-12 education years earlier. While still a junior
in high school, Mr. Simmons joined the United States Army Reserve, from
which he was Honorably Discharged in 1995 after successfully completing
his enlisted term.
Mr. Simmons is a graduate of Alabama A&M University
where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. After
completing his degree he returned to his hometown of Detroit, where
he began working for Detroit Public Schools as a first grade teacher.
Throughout Mr. Simmons’ tenure with the Detroit Public Schools
system he taught grades 1-5. During this period, Mr. Simmons worked
closely with union representatives to ensure non-discriminatory practices
while ensuring the success of all students. After five years of working
for DPS, Mr. Simmons discovered Plymouth Educational Center.
Mr. Simmons accepted a 5th Grade teaching position
with Plymouth Educational Center in the fall of 2000. In 2001, Mr. Simmons
was promoted to an administrative position as the Upper House Director,
responsible for 6th – 8th grades. Mr. Simmons proudly embraced
his current role as Dean of Students in the fall of 2003. As Dean of
Students, Mr. Simmons is able to enhance the academic and social well
being of the entire student body, while upholding the academic and social
standards of Plymouth Educational Center.
Mr. Simmons has been blessed with a loving wife,
who also teaches at Plymouth Educational Center, and three beautiful
children. Two of his children are enrolled at Plymouth Educational Center.
Mr. Simmons also attends Word of Faith International Christian Center
where he has been a member since 1997.
